Is it true that the sun is dangerous?
The sun has always been there, and man was created under the sun. It has been the driving force of life, the energy source under which all life on Earth has evolved for millions of years. How is it possible that our life-giving power is as dangerous to us as is claimed?
How on earth could we survive and even develop without all these "absolutely necessary" chemicals we slather ourselves with?
Ask yourself the facts: Why do melanomas, or skin cancer, occur so often in places that have never seen a single ray of sunlight? Under the feet, between the toes, on the inside of the thighs, and under the breasts – areas that are shielded from the direct effects of the sun?
Not always, of course, but why at all, if the sun is the cause? If the sun is the only culprit, shouldn't these hidden areas be safe?
This leads us to ask the question: Maybe the sun isn't what's damaging our skin, but maybe there are other factors that really weaken the skin's natural defenses.
Nasty factory oils and their impact on our cells
In the pursuit of so-called healthier fats, we have replaced the robust, saturated fats from the animal kingdom with factory-produced vegetable oils such as soy, sunflower, canola and corn oil.
This seems innocent enough until you think about it, but these oils contain polyunsaturated fatty acids that easily oxidize and lead to inflammation in the body. When something is unsaturated, it actually means that there is free space for something, it is not full – and this something there is room for is oxygen!
And as soon as the oxygen backs up into the vacant parking space, the fat has gone rancid and become toxic to the human body.
The skin is our largest organ, and it has no choice but to build itself with the fat you give it through the food you eat. When our cells are built on these factory-made fats, the skin's composition and structure weaken, leaving it vulnerable to both internal and external damage.
This means that you have a completely newly invented skin, just a few decades old, a completely different skin than humans have had for millions of years, that is going to face the good, ancient sun. And it may seem as if our new rapeseed oil skin is not up to the task.
Foods that directly make us photosensitive
Sugar is a well-known enemy of our skin. Maybe not well-known to you, but now you finally know about it too. When we consume sugar, all types of inflammation in the body increase, and insulin production increases, which weakens the skin's natural defenses.
Sugar itself is just the beginning of the problem, as it also contributes to the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which can damage collagen og elastin in the skin and cause it to lose elasticity, become drier and more susceptible to the harmful effects of the sun.
But then you have all the plant foods that directly make you more photosensitive: Citrus fruits like orange, lemon, lime, and then celery, parsley, celery, grapefruit, figs, tomatoes, rhubarb, oranges, lime, lemon, cucumber, papaya, chili, strawberries, blueberries, pomegranate, eggplant and carrots can all make the skin weakened and more susceptible to "the harmful effects of the sun«.
And then it's not the sun's fault, is it? Is it the food?
Why do we get skin cancer?
What if it is how we treat our bodies, what we eat and how we live, that makes us more vulnerable?
When we build our bodies with the wrong building materials, and disrupt the body's natural processes through a diet that increases inflammation, eating foods that directly make us photosensitive.
And we wash away the skin's natural oils with strong soaps and hot water, and instead apply modern chemicals that the earth has never known - can we expect the skin to behave as it should?
Maybe it's not the sun we should be afraid of – maybe we finally need to realize that we are making our skin more vulnerable. Maybe we have been tricked into blaming the sun, when the real enemy lies in our own lifestyle and food choices.
Skin cancer between the toes? Let's start the question there, and don't let anyone stop us from wondering if this comes more from within than from without...
The human animal literally came into being under the sun. We have evolved in its light, and it is high time we began to understand the sun for the life-giving force that it is.
The sun is the most important power for all creatures, but we have lost the ability to utilize its resources because we have built our organism with poor food choices, artificial fatty acids, new-fashioned chemicals and, not least, a lifestyle that has weakened our natural defenses.
If we want to protect our skin, we must start by giving it the right building blocks that created us: Food from a day on the hunt, all natural fats, conversations and philosophizing and singing over the campfire, and not least, avoid ending or starting the day by inflicting a chemical frontal assault on it from both factory foods and other products.
